My name is Ivan. I did an intensive training with Randy for 10 months in the year of ’08. He taught me how to feel, how to see the world, how to track and how to live. He taught me who I was using mother nature.Currently I am studying at Reed College and hope to finish a Linguistics and Philosophy double major, and plan to do a Master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology and a PhD in Cognitive Science. I have led several backpacking trips for the school, and I was a mentor for the semester-long seminar given to incoming students during the fall of ’10.
I was taught by Randy that the epitome of skill was the so-called scout, a person who exemplifies three abilities: awareness, empathy and dexterity. This is what I practiced those 10 months. We need awareness to perceive that is around us, empathy to care about it, and dexterity, whether it be physical or mental, to do something about it. But awareness is the most important of the three. Without it, empathy is left in a vacuum and dexterity remains idle. This practice has left me with a deeper understanding of all interactions, allowing me to move through life with greater wisdom and foreknowledge. I can only aspire as far as I see, and thanks to this training I can see further.

Before I began working with Randy, I was confused, unmotivated, stressed, depressed, and stuck in my life. After consulting with an education consultant, I found out about what Randy offered and within two weeks, I was admitted into the program.
Randy was very considerate, experienced, caring, and knowledgeable about my situation and catered to my specific needs. In the program I became more independent, in touch with nature (through activities like doing my sit spot every morning), I had a lot of fun and I learned a lot through the coursework. After three months, I am happy with where I am in my life. I'm no longer on any anti-depressants or other medication and I'm taking productive steps to reach my goals.
I would recommend the program for any young adults if they are struggling with finding direction in their life, still dependent on their parents, lacking self-confidence, lacking spiritual connection, or just feeling helpless. They will find the program helpful and reliable with someone who is passionate, trustworthy and willing to lend a hand.

Randy epitomizes a time in my life where the road split - a decision to stagnate or transform. I chose the tougher road, to find my true self and start the epic journey of growth. Through outdoor adventure and wellness, Randy opened my eyes to another world where creativity, adrenaline and strength can balance with professional accomplishment, compassion and integrity. I went from participating in destructive hobbies to finding a passion for adventure sports. I went from leading a delinquent life to leading NASA teams. I went from feeling lonely to marrying my beautiful wife on a mountaintop in New Zealand. My life forever changed after meeting Randy at that fork in the road; I am eternally grateful for his guidance, support and love.
